Salcombe

Karrageen Caravan and Camping Park

Karrageen is in a beautiful valley surrounded by National Trust protected coastline on the southern tip of Devon. The pretty fishing village of Hope Cove, with its sandy beaches and rock pools is just one mile down the lane. Four miles away is the sailing Mecca of Salcombe, often described as the most beautiful estuary in England.

If peace and tranquillity is what you are looking for then that is exactly what Karrageen offers. We do not have a club or bar or children’s playground but we do offer a well stocked shop with freshly cooked baguettes and croissants daily, a delicious hot, takeaway menu and plenty of space for children to play happily and safely.

Coastal Walks

There are two really good coastal walks around the area you are at. The first is from Torcross to Start Point Lighthouse and back. I prefer to picnic this - but there is a good pub at Beesands (the Cricketer ?) that is very good but can get busy (best to book). Also there are many celebrities that live in this neck of the woods and I have seen the following on this coastal walk over the past couple of years (though admittedly have almost walked past them on each occasion - Chris Martin (from Coldplay); Dawn French (Vicar of Dibley); Trevor MacDonald (Newscaster) and Menzies Campbell (politician). So you may wish to keep a look out!

The second is at Hope Cove - you walk out along the Coastal Path to the Port Light Pub (not great but the only one in a convenient spot - and then back through the countryside.

Dartmouth

Dartmouth Regatta Week 25th, 26th and 27th August 2011

Always packed and a nightmare to get to unless you get there early. But it is a really good atmosphere and we are hoping to schedule demonstration water polo matches and 'come and try' for locals and tourists in the Estuary or boat float of the town. I would advise that you try and book travel to Dartmouth on the Ferries that operate out of Salcome and Torbay and if the latter you can then get the train back from Kingswear to Torbay at the end of the day - thereby avoiding the traffic hell of Regatta week whilst doing something different.
